Dr. K.L. Wong — Founder & Agricultural Visionary

Dr. K.L. Wong was a respected agricultural professional with more than 30 years of experience in tropical plantation development, soil science, and land rehabilitation. Beginning his career with Malaysia’s Department of Agriculture and Department of Environment, he later served as a Technical Advisor to the Guthrie Group, gaining extensive experience in large-scale plantation management.

In 1992, Dr. Wong co-founded Tropicrop with En. Harun Abd. Aziz, bringing rigorous Malaysian plantation management practices to projects across the region. He was particularly known for his site-specific soil and fertiliser strategies and his pioneering work in rehabilitating degraded and logged-over tropical land for productive agriculture.

His expertise and methodology became the foundation of Tropicrop’s technical approach, supporting plantation assessment, development, financial modelling, GIS analysis, and long-term management.

Dr. Wong Kim Lian passed away in 2024, leaving behind a strong professional legacy that continues to guide Tropicrop today — from the soil up.
